Hi Lynne, Finally we're ready to finalize the divorce/paperwork. The Harp refi's for our properties are completed and recorded. Thanks, David, for writing a piece on mediation. Too few divorcing couples realize that mediation is a less expensive, lower conflict method of working out the details of separating a shared life. It may not work for everyone, but the bottom line is that most divorces (over 90%) settle without going to trial anyway. The legal process is a grueling, time intensive, expensive commitment. The recent and impending cuts to the courts' budgets will only exacerbate the situation with extended delays, making litigated divorces that much more unpleasant.
And, no, Lynne is definitely not a bottom feeder! She's a neat lady who has a strong desire to save couples from creating a worse situation. Mediators are the peacekeepers of the family law arena - Lawyers are the gladiators. They each play valuable roles, but it's easier to start with a peacekeeper and move on to a gladiator (if needed) than to undo the damage of a wielded sword.
